SARA PEÑA, MPA 

President Sara Peña, lives in Newark, New Jersey, along with her family, where she was born, raised and educated. She currently serves as the Senior Community Outreach Coordinator at University Hospital in Newark, Department of Public Affairs. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Kean University in 1996. In May 2014, Ms. Peña received her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Rutgers University in Newark, and was inducted into the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, Pi Alpha Alpha. Inspired by her son, Anthony, Ms. Peña founded the Boys to Leaders Foundation. Its mission is to empower and motivate young men by providing leadership training, educational programs, and positive personal and professional development.

Andrea Martinez
ANDREA G. MARTINEZ-MEJIA

Vice President Mrs. Martinez-Mejia currently serves as Coordinator of Community Health Services for the City of Trenton’s Department of Health and Human Services where she is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the department and helps oversee various programs and initiatives. Prior to joining the City of Trenton, she served as Community Recovery Director for the American Red Cross’s Superstorm Sandy Long Term Recovery Team where she led a team of 7 specialists tasked with assisting Sandy stricken communities recover from this natural disaster in conjunction with other partner organizations and stakeholders.

Treasurer Connie Sanchez is currently the executive director at Unity Charter School.  She is a collaborative educational leader who leads the staff in curriculum development, implementation and revision, ensuring that teaching methods support core curriculum requirements and meet the ecological and sustainability missions of the school.

Corresponding Secretary Margie Lopez is the office manager and paralegal in the Newark law firm of Felix Lopez Montalvo, Esq. She handles commercial and residential real estate transactions, purchases and sales of businesses, and liquor licenses. Previously she worked for New York Life Insurance Company. Margie is one of the founding members of LUPE and held the position of Treasurer for LUPE for many years.

Emy Quispe

EMY A. QUISPE
Board Member Emy Quispe is a life-long resident of the City of Elizabeth. She arrived in the United States from Peru at the early age of six. Emy graduated from Elizabeth High School in 2010, formerly known as Upper Academy, in the top 1% of her graduating class. In 2013, she graduated from Union County College with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and had the privilege of representing the graduates as the Student Commencement Speaker. After she graduated, Emy served as the Student Representative to the Union County College Board of Trustees, while attending Seton Hall University, where she graduated in 2015, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

Immediate Past Director Iveth is Director of Marketing, Public Relations and Development at Matheny Medical and Education Center in Peapack, NJ (www.matheny.org). As Director, Iveth and her team manage all volunteers, development activities, special events, government affairs, and marketing projects for the Matheny School, Hospital, Arts Access program, and five group homes.

Previously, she served as Acting Director of Marketing and Communications at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. In that role, she managed branding, visual identity and public relations for 21 academic departments. In addition, she worked as project manager for the office of the Chief Operating Officer and was in charge of special events and community relations.

Deanna Marie Norcross

Board Member Deanna- Marie Norcross is an associate at Mosaic Strategies Group, a firm dedicated to helping professional service firms, businesses, political campaigns and non-profits expand their digital presence. She specializes in creating effective messaging and communication strategies for issue-based politics and campaigns. In her past role as program coordinator at the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), she oversaw the logistical implementation and program development of Ready to Run® New Jersey, a bipartisan effort to recruit and train women to run for all levels of office. She also provided both program consultation and on-site support to the Ready to Run® National Network, which comprises of seventeen partners in fifteen states. Norcross received her B.A. from Smith College in Latin American studies and African American studies, focusing on the intersection between race and gender. She is currently working on her master’s degree in public administration with a focus on non-profit management at the School for Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University-Newark.

Board Member Margarita Gesualdo Roig, has been Assistant Professor at Essex County College, Newark, NJ since 1990. She is founder and CEO of La Casa Hispana, Inc., a private non-profit national community agency committed to empowering families. Margarita has worked as Commissioner for the School Ethic Commission of NJ Department of Education from 2004 – 2009 and on Governor Whitman’s Child Care Advisory Council. Margarita is one of the founding members of LUPE and serves as a Board of Trustee as well as on boards for La Casa De Don Pedro, National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Education, and Hispanic Association in Higher Education of NJ (HAHE). She has coordinated and directed programs in early childhood education and credentials for the improvement of the lives of children and their families.  She served as consultant to the Quality Improvement Center, NYU and The Council for Professional Recognition for a number of years. She served as Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) from 1987-1993 and Girl Scout leader from 1992-1996.


VIRGINIA CLASS-MATTHEWS

VIRGINIA CLASS-MATTHEWS, ESQ.
Board Member Virginia Class-Matthews is a Deputy Attorney General in the NJ Dept. of Law and Public Safety with over 25 years of experience. She is currently assigned to the Consumer Affairs Counseling Section. She is a sports enthusiast with a passion for tennis, skiing and scuba diving. She has served as a big sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters Program and served on several boards including Girl Scout Council of Greater Essex, the NJ Hispanic Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association.

GRISSELE CAMACHO, ESQ.
Board Member Grissele Camacho is an attorney in private practice concentrating in family law matters. She has had a life-long interest in helping to empower the economically and politically disadvantaged. She was a founding member and past president of the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey, and a founder and past chair of LUPE. She served as Vice-president for Programs of the Hispanic National Bar Association. In that capacity she initiated Eleccion Latina, a program to train Latinas interested in running for public office. That program is now replicated annually in a collaboration between The LUPE Fund, Inc. and the Center for American Women & Politics at Rutgers University.


VIRGINIA CLASS-MATTHEWS

Board Member Alixon works as a Public Affairs Manager for the BGill Group, a public affairs and government relations agency. In her role, she administers special projects and events aimed at improving and expanding the client’s brand and visibility. Currently, Alixon is heading the Latino Outreach Program for New Jersey Gubernatorial Candidate, Phil Murphy.

Board Member Yolanda Méndez graduated from Rutgers College, Rutgers University Graduate School, Capella University Graduate School and Seton Hall University Graduate School. Dr. Méndez possesses a BA, two EdMs an EdS and her EdD in Educational Leadership and Management. Her dissertation theme was on how new approaches to leadership and effectively building teacher capacity address the needs of an urban elementary school. She has been a Principal at Roberto Clemente Elementary School in Newark, New Jersey since 2008 and began her administrative career in education as a Director of Instructional Technology and Curriculum in 1997 in the city of Dover, NJ.

Board Member Diana was born in New York City of Ecuadorian parents. She currently works for the County of Union. Diana received her Master in Public Administration from Kean University in 2015 and her Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Psychology from Kean University in 2012. Ms. Calle was inducted into the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, Pi Alpha Alpha and elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. In 2014, she was also selected to participate in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program in Washington, D.C. In 2013, she completed the NJ Governor’s Hispanic Fellows Program, assigned to ASPIRA Inc. of NJ.
