Ms. Cano is a proud member of the immigrant community in Elizabeth She migrated from Colombia and started her studies at Kean College where she was embraced by the town's history and diverse people. By applying the convictions of her upbringing; dedication, hard work, love for family and pride in the community, she was able to capitalize on the opportunities afforded by this city.
For over 25 years she became one of the key finance employees in one of the manufacturing companies located at the historic "Singer Building" in the city of Elizabeth.
She has also been given the opportunity to serve the community in a variety of civic roles, including: Adjustment Commissioner on the city's Zoning Board, President of Cafeteros of New Jersey Lions club, Zone Chair #1 for the District 16-J Lions International, Community outreach of Hispanos Unidos Organization, Word Minister of Saint Catherine of Siena, Third Ward Community Woman, city of Elizabeth's Democratic Party Treasurer, the Board of Trustees & Secretary of Homefirst Interfaith Housing & Family Organization, OFA Fellow and Lupe Fund member. In addition, she organized the first city-wide "Ciclovia" or "Open Streets" bringing families together to enjoy an outdoor event.
